白雪公主（Snow White）是广泛流行于欧洲的一个童话故事中的人物，其中最著名的故事版本见于德国1812年的《格林童话》。讲述了白雪公主受到继母皇后（格林兄弟最初手稿中为生母）的虐待，逃到森林里，遇到七个小矮人的故事。历史学家巴特尔思据称白雪公主的历史原型是1725年生于德国西部美茵河畔洛尔城的玛利亚·索菲亚·冯·埃尔塔尔。
美丽的白雪公主受继母的嫉妒而被多次置于死地，最后在七个小矮人和王子的帮助下获得新生。爱慕虚荣、贪恋美貌的王后总是爱问镜子：“魔镜魔镜，谁是这个世界上最美的女人？”当镜子说是白雪公主时，王后就伪装成巫婆，骗白雪公主吃下毒苹果。
吃下毒苹果的白雪公主被随后出现的王子救了，最终王子和公主幸福地生活在一起，王后得到了应有的惩罚。
对创作原型的考证
经过17年的考证和讨论，德国西南部小镇洛尔的童话学者自信地表示，白雪公主来自他们的家乡。
一时之间，洛尔成为全球白雪公主迷关注的焦点，远自日本甚至哈萨克斯坦的电视台均来采访。洛尔童话协会大大巴特尔斯表示，白雪公主名叫玛丽亚·冯·埃特尔，是于1729年6月15日在洛尔出生的贵族。
玛丽亚成长的古堡变成了一座博物馆。馆内有一面“会说话的”镜子——这种发声玩具在18世纪曾风行一时，而洛尔当年正是制造这种“魔镜”的中心。这块镜子的主人不是别人，正是玛丽亚的“恶毒”后母，即父亲菲利普的第二任妻子克劳迪娅。
巴特尔斯表示：“玛丽亚小时因天花视力受损，现存的记录都说她是善良好心的女孩子。或许人们下意识地站在玛丽亚一边对抗后母，因此将她后母塑造成心肠恶毒的人。”
七名小矮人来自西部比伯的矿场，由于矿洞窄小，只能容得下身材矮小的矿工。他们为免被落石所伤，通常会戴着色彩鲜艳的头巾。而毒苹果则是涂上了当地盛产的一种植物提炼出来的毒素。
对于白雪公主的疑问
可是，在对于本故事的考证上却陷入了一个问号——在部分考证资料上，这个故事应该没有这么简单和美好。所以，上面资料的准确性值得商榷。在格林童话里，有许多故事是会有更深层次的意义的。据某些资料上说，白雪公主这一故事包含了关于性、乱伦、爱情、心理学、食人等极其复杂的东西。这使得《格林童话》的内涵和表达思想完全不一样。
不过，请大家宁愿不要相信这是真的，当我说的是假话，保留一个纯真的回忆。
